Acting on hindsight is wisdom. Acting wise on hindsight is arrogance.
Red Management & Consultancy focuses on risk, crisis and disaster management. The people I usually work with are team players or are interested in improving their approach to preparedness and response by working together with other disciplines within and outside their team or organisation. This, according to me, is a prerequisite for dealing with crises and disasters.
- Project management
- Emergency Management Awareness Training (EMAT)
- Development of tailor made trainings, courses, workshops and exercises on emergency, crisis and disaster management
- Software
- And…always interested in new challenges!
When it comes to emergency and crisis management, for years, we have been moderately sidetracked regarding our support efforts towards our ladies and gents in the field in making their work easier, quicker and more effective. This was mainly due to 'new' emergencies, new technology (pigeon, fax, email, whatsapp, etc) and the desire to manage everything and inform everyone from every level of incident coordination.
If anything, we have always learned that we should fight as we train, we should stick to K.I.S.S. and we should always do what we know and do best. Hence, avoiding 'new' procedures, plans and activities as much as possible, just to be able to respond adequately for that one specific crisis and emergency.
Obviously, my point here is, even though our efforts are admirable, we most definitely fail on point four, if not at all four.
The reason for the app, therefore, was to bring back the focus of incident management to the first three points and re-impowering our incident commanders, crisis managers, etc, to the point where they can focus on their response work in the field, based on their education, training, experience and not predominantly on a checklist, template or the mere pressure to communicate and report.
